Elevating Youth Justice: The Criminalization of Our Children
As we continue our advocacy for youth and criminal justice reform, we must understand the practice of criminalizing of our children is deeply rooted in the politics of our country and our state. Which is one of the reasons that we always find ourselves in the position of having to paint the picture that supporting our children is better, and less costly, than incarcerating our children.

Unfortunately, making the general public afraid of its own children works in political campaigns. However, it does not work for the actual safety and well-being of our children and families. And it certainly does not work for the economic well-being of communities across the state of Georgia.

Guest presenter:
Guy Johnson of the Opportunity Institute, where he serves as the Senior Program Director of the Federal and National Networks P-12 Program. Guy came to the Opportunity Institute from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.
